Hello, this is LIFE Plastic Surgery.The journal article by Dr. Sewhan Rhee has been released in the Magazine Plastic Surgery Korea. Plastic Surgery Korea is a beauty and cosmetic surgery related magazine to share the information and trend regarding medical experts and cosmetic surgery. On this month’s issue, Dr. Sewhan Rhee wrote an article regarding Complications of Injectable Fillers. Here is the summary of the articles. Complications of Injectable Fillers, Part IStarting with Zyderm Collagen (Allegan Inc, Irvine, California) in 1981, bovine Collagen has been widely used. After that numerous different variations have been released. Among that the most popular kinds are HA kinds. HA products are made of linear, unbranched, highmolecular weight glycosaminoglycan complex sugar which are composed of the alternation of d-glucuronic acid and N-acetyl-d-glucosamine. In 1934, As Meyer and Palmer first published while analyzing bovine vitreous, HA is found on the skin and has the following functions. From physical functions such as working as lubricant and to biological functions such as fertility, embryogenesis, morphogenesis, cell movement, reaction to immflamation, would healing, HA is an essential substance and has chemical functions.
 In a natural state, HA is a very ideal filler substance. However, it has extremely short half life. Producing companies sought to modify the chemical composition of HA to prolong the natural turnover and increase the half-life by using various substance such as butanediol diglycidyl ether(BDDE). So far through minimal ingredient change, producing companies have been producing HA products that can maintain the immune system and has long half-life and does not change easily. The initial HA production used the biological substance extracted from animal, but it was blamed for protein contamination. As a result the base material for hyaluronates has been drawn and developed from Lancefield group A and C Streptococcus equi zooepi-demicus. These bacteria then produced pure hyaluro-nate mucoid capsule.
 Rather than contaminated complex protrein of birds or mammals, more distilled and large amount of hyaluronate can be obtained in this bacterial broth by distilling/refining primitive bacterial protein contaminant. Between the chains there are more cross-linking. Due to efforts to prolong the shelve-life there is inevitable decrease in the saturation. This is caused by immunity-mediated side-effects. Therefore, to minimize the susceptibility to breakdown, there needs to be balance between maintaining natural HA’s chemical structural change and not changing natural structure too much so that it is recognized as foreign substance by immune system.

I am sick of hearing that I look tired or sleepy! No more!

Surprisingly, I am actually very interested in outer appearance. I keep up with trendy fashion, make-up and accessory.

But I never have heard people say I look pretty.

All I get is you look tired. I have had enough of this…

Getting dolled up is not enough, so I finally am getting plastic surgery!!

First, I want to make my eyes pop up distinctly. My nose is relatively high but is not a pretty shape. So I want to make my nose line more pretty and feminine.

Also, nobody knows, but I had a hair style I wanted to try for the longest time. That is hair pulled back. But my forehead isn’t the prettiest forehead so I covered it all the time. So I decided to undergo forehead surgery as well.

Please change everything you can.

I had butterflies since the night before the surgery.

Now that I am close to getting the surgery, because I do not like my face now, I just want to get it over with as soon as possible.
With the excitement of kids the night before the picnic, I went to the clinic an hour early for consultation.
As soon as the doctor saw me, I was so surprised that he picked out all the areas that I was unhappy with.

Eyes, Nose, and Forehead! All you need to get is this 3 area.
Now that I heard, right from the doctor, I just want to get the surgery and get it over with!
Wait for me! New life and new face!!!

As days go by, my confidence is growing bigger and bigger!

3 days after the surgery: Everything that can swell is swollen!

3 days after the surgery, on the first day after the surgery I thought my swelling was not that bad, so I thought maybe I am not going to swell that much. But wait a minute.. after a night of sleep, it started to swell and after 2 days, every part that can swell is swollen to its fullest. Even to my ears where I had my piercing!

But I cannot check whether the surgery went well or not. All I can do is ice pack diligently.

Maybe it is because of the swelling, but my face is getting red. I hear this is just a temporary condition. So I will wait for the time to heal. Patience is a virtue!

 7 days after the surgery: All the swelling are gone but still have bruises left

I think all the swelling is almost gone by now.

But, on the part where there were bruises, I only have yellow bruise left. Now I can check where the eyelid is going to be. I feel good!

 

Originally, I wanted to do magic epicanthoplasty, but because I was getting nose surgery, the doctor didn’t recommend me getting magic epicanthoplasty. Now that I look at my face, I think it was a good decision that I didn’t get epicanthoplasty. I quickly want to get rid of splint on my nose and confidently roam around the city. My roommate is getting envious of my surgery result and I feel a little flattered~lol.

2 weeks after the surgery: Can you see my defined and clear face?

All the bruise and swelling are gone, and today is the day to get stitches removed.

I am really happy about the double eyelid line. This is the perfect outline and I am happy. But because all the swelling is gone in 2 weeks, I am afraid my double eyelid might completely go away. However, I am super satisfied right now! I will take another selfie after the stitch out!

 1 month after the surgery: I am confident about pulling my hair up!

I guess I still have little bit of swelling left, so my forehead looks more protruding and wide than the actual outcome. So my friend keep teasing that all they see when they see me coming in is my forehead.. hehe. But even such joke is nice to hear? I am so happy about my nose because it looks natural. Friends keep asking where I had my surgery done and how cheap they can get it done.. so I am assuming they are all envious of my outcome.

 Now that I have confidence in my face, I am excited to go out and meet people!

 Because I live with my roommate, I have not yet told my parents about my surgery yet. The other day, when my mom saw my face, she was so surprised! Is it my daughter? Because my mom hasn’t seen the process where I was all swollen and just saw the final product, she is so happy and ecstatic about my surgery outcome. As much as her, I am satisfied about my face, so I feel happy.

Naturally voluminous forehead, beautiful curve from the forehead to the nose bridge to the nose tip and finally my eyes that make my face pop among the million…

There is literally no body parts that I am not happy about. Yet I feel like I want to do something more. Recently fat injection is hot. I feel my cheek fat is slimmer and slimmer, and I want plump cheek fat like the Korean celebrity.

 Friends keep telling me I got prettier so it’s fun to go out and meet people.
